A crash course in Hot Rod language.  Have you ever wondered what exactly is meant by "Chopped" or what "Binders" are? 

Chopped = a car that has had the roof trimmed or cut to lower the roof line. 

Channeled = a hot rod or custom where the body has been dropped over the frame to reduce the profile or overall height of the car.

Binders = slang for brakes.

Rake = the term for how the car is set with a lowered front end.

Stance = the term for how the tires and wheels cause the car to sit on the road.

Steelies = steel wheels, such as Gennies, Smoothies or OE Ford/GM.

Tubbed = modified rear end, the fenders are cut to house taller and wider tires than OE, in some cases the rear seat is removed.

Continental kit = area to store the spare tire other than in the trunk or undercarriage.

Billet = a part that is machined from a solid piece of steel or aluminum.

Drop axle = front axle with a sharp downward bend as it leave the wheel so it is lower than stock.

Skins = another name for tires.

Pie crust sidewall = a term used to describe the sidewall scallops, as seen on many of the Firestone bias ply tires.

Dog dish hubcap = refers to a baby moon hubcap.

Flat head = the V8 engine that Ford used 1932 – 1955 which had the valves located in the engine block.

Hemi engine = an engine where the combustion chamber area in the head is shaped like half a sphere. ( Hemispherical)
